As part of the new EyeCare Optical – Hardin Valley team, Dr. Mia Guillory is proud of the level of care her team provides to the community. “One of the many things I love about EyeCare Optical is our wide range of testing capabilities. We can conduct a thorough medical eye exam and still spend time getting to know patients on a more personal level. In addition to providing fashionable eyewear and contact lens, as part of Drs. Campbell, Cunningham, Taylor & Haun, we can refer our patients to specialists, such as cataract or retina, without them having to change practices.”
A native of Louisiana, Dr. Guillory graduated with a nursing degree from LSU’s Health Science Centerin 2000, finished her pre-requisite courses at the University of New Orleans, and then went on to earn her doctoral degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. “The fact that I am a people person and have a desire to help people led me naturally into healthcare.” Her career led her to become a member of the EyeCare Optical team when she and her husband moved to Knoxville for his teaching position at the University of Tennessee.
Eye disease management is an ever-evolving science, and Dr. Mia Guillory wants to stay on the forefront of diagnosis and treatment options. “With the use of digital devices like computers and smartphones, people are using their up-close vision much more, which puts a strain on the eyes. At EyeCare Optical, we can offer many different treatment options for dry eyes, most covered by insurance.”
Dr. Guillory also takes special interest in a parallel pediatric eye problem. “With nearsighted children, the extra strain from staring at computers and smartphones and other digital devices can cause, in some cases, the eye to become elongated and result in even more nearsightedness,” Dr. Guillory explains. “It is critical for children, especially those with nearsightedness, to have an eye exam with an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist each year to monitor eye health.”
Dr. Guillory offers comprehensive eye examinations, performs diagnosis and treatment for a variety of eye diseases, and helps fit patients with contact lenses at the EyeCare Optical location in Hardin Valley.
