There are many conditions and diseases of the cornea that can affect your vision and overall eye health. Dr. Jake McMillin and Dr. Eric Sollenberger are your Cornea Specialists with Drs. Campbell, Cunningham, Taylor & Haun, part of EyeCare Optical. Along with a highly skilled team, both cornea specialists treat all components of the eye but are fellowship-trained in treating conditions that affect the cornea specifically.

The cornea is the clear, outer surface of the eye and is responsible for two-thirds of its focusing power. It functions to direct light into the eye and to protect the more delicate tissues inside. If the cornea is damaged, then the light entering the eye is distorted, resulting in blurry vision. Damage can occur in several ways, including injury, disease, infection, or eye surgery. If the corneal damage is mild, it may be repaired to restore normal vision completely. In severe cases, a corneal transplant may be necessary.

Thorough Care for Corneal Conditions

Your cornea can be likened to the windshield of your car. The car may function fine mechanically, but if you can’t see through the windshield, you certainly won’t get very far. When the cornea becomes damaged, either through injury or disease, it’s just like having a broken windshield.

Your Knoxville Cornea Specialist with EyeCare Optical can provide a thorough eye examination to screen for, diagnose, and treat various conditions and diseases of the cornea. Depending on the severity of symptoms, your East Tennessee Cornea Specialist may recommend additional testing.
