Drs. Campbell, Cunningham, Taylor & Haun are delighted to welcome back a familiar face to EyeCare Optical in Farragut, Gregory Everett, O.D. He built a great reputation with our patients when the Farragut location first opened.

Growing up on the lake and playing sports, Dr. Everett left straight out of high school for Marine boot camp and ultimately, Operation Vigilant Resolve in Fallujah in 2004 during Iraqi Freedom II. A member of the infantry, Greg carried an M-16; a four-time “Expert Marksman,” he was Designated Marksman for his squad. After one year of deployment, Sergeant Everett came back and worked as a recruiting officer while attending Middle Tennessee State University, where he discovered a passion for Optometry.

“I was majoring in Physiology with the idea to eventually go to medical school, and along the way, I did internships in Optometry and Pharmacy. I discovered that I really liked Optometry having always been fascinated by the vision system of the body,” he says. “The specialized care provided by Optometrists appealed to me.”  He received his medical training at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis and during an externship with Drs. Campbell, Cunningham, Taylor & Haun, fell in love with Knoxville, especially the people.

“Most of my practice is routine eye exams, contact lens fittings and comprehensive eye exams,” says Dr. Everett. “I also see patients with macular degeneration, glaucoma and dry eyes. In a typical day, I’ll see a lot of ocular disease and occasionally I get a difficult contact lens fitting – a challenge I enjoy.” Dr. Everett is pleased when patients refer to him as my eye doctor. “That tells me they have a level of comfort and trust I work hard to earn. I want them to have the best patient experience possible.”

“I want to be as educated and skilled as possible to handle the most challenging situations. Practicing at EyeCare Optical in Farragut, with our comprehensive eye care team of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and a Retina Specialist, yields unlimited opportunity for further learning. Here, eye care is all under one umbrella. I can refer my patients for cataract, blepharoplasty and retina disease so it’s convenient and they need not fill out new forms or become a patient at yet another practice.”

“I enjoy working with all walks of life,” says Dr. Everett, “and particularly the younger patients – to get to know these patients and follow them and their families throughout their lives. Some of their ailments are serious, even painful, and it’s inspiring to see how bravely they cope with them. It helps me keep life in perspective and I’m grateful to be in a position to help patients in great need. It’s a special feeling.”

To unwind, Dr. Everett works out regularly at the gym and plays golf. And he often makes a dash for the Florida panhandle where he and his brother board their boat in pursuit of red snapper, cobia, mahi-mahi and mackerel.
